Dr. Horrible’s Sing Along Blog
Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog is a 2008 musical tragicomedy miniseries in three acts, produced exclusively for Internet distribution. Filmed and set in Los Angeles, the show tells the story of Dr. Horrible (Neil Patrick Harris), an
aspiring super villain; Captain Hammer (Nathan Fillion), his nemesis; and Penny (Felicia Day), their mutual love interest.
Writer/director Joss Whedon (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Serenity, Dollhouse), his brothers Zack Whedon (a television writer) and Jed Whedon (a composer), and actress Maurissa Tancharoen, wrote the musical
during the 2008 WGA writers’ strike. The idea was to create something small and inexpensive, yet professionally done, in a way that would circumvent the issues that were being protested during the strike.
On October 31, 2008, Time magazine named it #15 in Time’s Top 50 Inventions of 2008.It also won the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Online Sensation” and the 2009 Hugo Award for Best Dramatic Presentation, Short
Form. Dr. Horrible won seven 2009 Streamy Awards for web television in Audience Choice Award for Best Web Series, Best Directing for a Comedy Web Series, Best Writing for a Comedy Web Series, Best Male Actor in a Comedy Web Series (Harris), Best Editing, Best Cinematography, and Best Original Music. It also won a 2009 Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class - Short-format Live-Action Entertainment Programs.

Dr. Horrible, an aspiring supervillain with his own video blog, is attempting to join the prestigious Evil League of Evil (led by the legendary “thoroughbred of sin”, Bad Horse), but his plans are usually foiled by the egotistical superhero Captain Hammer. Horrible’s life is thrown for a loop when he falls in love with Penny, a beautiful and optimistic advocate for the homeless he meets at the laundromat, a situation which complicates itself even further when Penny begins dating the boorish, oafish Hammer after he apparently saves her life. Faced with the task of impressing the League, can Horrible overcome his own incompetence to ruin the day, kill the hero, and still get the girl?
